Sunrise
The gripping sunshine creeps slowly over the hill
There is no movement, everything is still
It illuminates the field, shining through drops of frost
My breaths are slow and deep, turning into mist as they leave my body
The day is being born; I can hear birds in a nearby tree
The rays of light are warm upon my skin
I get a tingling feeling, like being poked with a pin
The sun, now a full circle, rises high
The beautiful sight brings a tear to my eye
It runs down my cheek, glistening in the light
Later I shall return to watch it fall, turning the sky into night

To keep from insanity, I whistle a song
The shovel gets heavier with every mound of dirt
My sunburn throbs, as I am not wearing a shirt
My team mates and I work all the day
Each hour passing slowly, we begin to fade away
Marching home, guns pointed at our back
Never slowing, you get shot if you're slack

Fangs thick as stones, eyes glowing brown
Little creatures run as they are being hunted down
Sleeping at night in a nice warm den
After eating that big, fat, juicy, tender hen
Wake up in the morning, hear his stomach growl
Jump out into the world again, back out on the prowl

Goldie
Goldie was like an angel sent down to help me through
This might be hard to understand for you
She wasn't just a dog, she was my companion, my best friend
Our relationship was pure truth; nothing between us was pretend
Her soft and sweet nature made her easy for young ones to pat
And her sense of curiosity got her bitten by a rat
It was a very sad moment when Goldie passed away
And in my heart is where she will always stay
